THE DEEP is one of the most imaginative Inuit sculptures I have seen in the past seventeen years.
The tusk-like forehead projection immediately conveys the message "This creature is NOT human".
The Deep is no fanciful merman.
Mermen would have human arms.
The Deep has fins!
The details of the head are fascinating.
The deep eye sockets and open nasal passages are reminiscent of a skull contrasting with the full lips.
The fastidiously carved pattern of the hollow body is incredible.
It must have taken Daniel weeks to carve this effect!
